The end of the year and the end of the decade prompted us to do two look-back pieces. The first was to throw our answers out to the EaterDC questions posed to local DC writers. Eater did not ask for opinion or update their posts to add our answers, but we felt better having done so. We also took up the challenge to list a dozen restaurants that defined the decade. Combined, that was a lot of navel-gazing and chin-scratching, so we only posted one piece on a restaurant. But it is a good one!
Updates to the Recommended Restaurant List:
Added:
Emilies – Chef Kevin Tien came from Himitsu and in a couple months opened this gem. He recruited an amazing opening team, constructed an impressive, creative menu – that he is already tinkering with. This is already an excellent restaurant. It could become an important one.
News:
Maialino Mare is opening in Navy Yard. The first non-Shake Shack restaurant from Danny Meyer. Take a look at the picture in the Eater piece linked, they include an amazing sight: Tablecloths!
Minibar has lost its head chef, Jorge Hernández is heading back to his native Texas. No replacement has been named yet. This year I finally made it to minibar and it was an amazing experience. Best of luck to him and the rest of the team who carry on.
Izakaya Seki is now taking reservations. Note to self: it has been far too long and there is no excuse now.

And, be sure to make a new year’s resolution to use our dining guide instead of starting with Yelp or Opentable. We have more than 200 places that you can sort by cuisine, neighborhood, and/or rating! In both MAP or LIST format.
