Lyle’s

Current Status:  The newly re-minted hotel and restaurant north of Dupont Circle is open 7 days a week, including for breakfast.  The appear to have a limited take-out menu of bento boxes and desserts.

Lyle’s is the restaurant in the space that used to be The Riggsby (which decamped to Bethesda).  The hotel got a new owner (which ironically owns the Riggs Hotel in Penn Quarter) and the restaurant transitioned along with the ownership change.  They added a brighter modernist décor, including white banquettes that they swear will wash well.  The food, likewise, moved from straight classics to more New American in approach.  But the bar is still there and you can still get a burger.  Based on one visit, they are trying hard to make it work as a real restaurant, not just one servicing the hotel.  They are operating at a pretty high level for having to open before things were fully open.  Covid robbed them of the launch that the original Riggsby or the recent Dauphine’s was able to pull off, but they are worth checking out.  The neighborhood missed that bar as an adult option for a drink.  Let’s hope they are able to keep up the effort.
