Current Status: They are open for dine-in and continue to do take-out and delivery.
Overview: Cane does the food from the Caribbean, especially the food of Trinidad where the owner Jeanine Prime and her brother, opening chef Peter Prime, grew up. Chef Prime, made a mark at Spark before it closed at the end of 2019, which opened the door for launching Cane with his sister in 2019. It was an immediate hit, winning awards and nominations, including Best New Restaurant of the Year in D.C. It shifted to take-out during the height of the pandemic, which is when we first got a chance to taste it.
Chef Prime parted ways in February 2022 (he is currently chef and partner in Bammy’s in Navy Yard). Jeanine Prime continues to own Cane and just opened the lauded St. James at 14th and U.
