Before Times Review:

First Visited: July 2019

A. Litteri rolled over ownership recently, but it retains its old-school Italian deli feel. The shop first opened in 1926 and moved to this location in 1932. The red and yellow cans guide you along a path to the back of the shop where there is a deli counter. There you can order sandwiches and salads to go, along with other deli items and catering choices.  Many consider this place to be one of – if not the – best sandwich spots in D.C.  Others bemoan tweaks that happened since the ownership change to say the place has lost its primacy.  In either case, it is still really good and worth a trip.

It should be noted that it has a really good wine selection, something we flagged in our growing list of great neighborhood wine shops.  It is heavy on Italy, but it can cover other bases.

Whether you are looking for a sub, bottle of wine, or just love to stand in the middle of Italian delis, A. Litteri can take care of you.
