Weygandt Wines

Picture: The sprawling selection at Weygandt Wines

We continue our hunt for great wine shops in D.C.  This week: Cleveland Park.

Weygandt Wines – This is a retail shop that features wines imported by the parent company.  The heart of the inventory is French, though it does carry a more than representative set of choices from Italy, Germany, Austria, and Spain.  There are also a few from Australia and the west coast.  Tucked in the corner is a small set of shelves with distilled spirits.  Despite being limited to wines they import, the selection is better than many shops and also of a higher quality.  The bottles tend to start around $15 and go up in price and out in choices from there.  The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable.  It is the kind of place wine enthusiast would like to work.  Wine classes and tastings are frequently on the calendar.  This place is great to swing by for those who take Connecticut Ave., but is worth a trip to check out even if it is out of the way.

Honorable Mention: Cleveland Park Wine & Spirits – A more traditional liquor/wine store with a pretty good selection.  When I wandered, I spotted one of D.C.’s better sommeliers doing some shopping.
