Sorellina – What if you want Stachowski’s pastrami sandwich without the trip to Georgetown and maybe a bit more manageable size? The folks behind the Emissary coffee shop at P and 21st (which for some will always be the old Japone spot) opened a sister sandwich/cafe spot across the street at 2029 P St. (name Sorellina means little sister). In addition to Stachowski’s pastrami, they serve several other kinds of sandwiches along with salads. The food draws on Italian – cold cuts, chicken parm, antipasti – but not exclusively. That goes for the beverages too. They serve wine, beer and cocktails. They open for breakfast at 7:00 and stay open until 10:00 pm with lunch and happy hour. The sandwiches’ bread/filling ratio leans toward bread, but at least it is good bread. Seating is a few tables and a long counter. One sweet touch is the pictures of bicyclists, something Italy and Dupont have in common. It was cool to see one of the old-time messengers checking out a picture of himself on display. Sorellina is a bright spot with a sunny disposition and a good sibling. Definitely worth trying out.
