On Saturday’s we like to post about art, especially art that intersects with the world of food (to match the overall theme of this site). Today our post honors someone who represented this intersection more than any other figure in the contemporary art world.
Wayne Thiebaud died this past Christmas Day at the age of 101. Though he painted many subjects, it was is joyful, colorful paintings of sweet foods like pies, cakes, and candy that most broadly resonated.
This painting, Pie Counter, appeared in a retrospective in 2001, organized by the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco.
