Lazizi Halal Cuisine

Overview:

With very little fanfare, H Street got a three-fer.  A restaurant doing really good South Asian dishes, and Mediterranean dishes, and a zero-proof cocktail program. Lazizi Halal Cuisine comes from the former owner of community-minded Sakina Grill, who appears to have bounced back from post-covid era issues

Lazizi occupies a sweet spot of proper sit-down options at an affordable price point.  Large portions of staples like eggplant, spinach, potatoes, lentils or kebabs can be easily shared or spread over a few days for leftovers (or both if you order big), the spicing balanced and tasty.  The South Asian dishes are the primary focus of the menu, but the falafel we tried were excellent – large, crisped to deep brown with a still moist herb-tinted interior.  The non-alcoholic cocktails are a great option, especially for a family, though the bar may have more delivery guys waiting for orders than revelers out on H Street.

The space is large, with that bar running from front to back.  Groups of friends, a few dates and a couple large families occupied the tables on our visit.  It is a good spot to gather for big meal, or before heading off on a longer night on H Street.

Other Guidance:  Located at street level.  GF and vegetarians can do well.
