Emmy Squared

Current Status: The Shaw location has tables outside and is taking reservations.  The new Navy Yard location is not taking reservations for sit-down yet (but that could change at any moment).  They are definitely open for Take-out and Delivery, as evidenced by the jammed 8th Street situation.

Emmy Squared is a Detroit-style pizza joint that started in Brooklyn, New York.  The pies are square and deep-dish in style.  They are about as big as a personal-sized pie, but the doughy nature means it is enough to split for most.  They also do burgers, fries, and wings.  So, it is pretty much the definition of a cheat day blow out.  The pies are very good, with 48-hour fermented dough and crispy edges.  The sauces shine here, even the basic tomato.  They have GF versions, which are also very good.  The not to be missed dish is the eggplant parm, which is a deconstructed version with fried, crispy eggplant thins.  The chain has expanded pretty quickly in various locations East of the Mississippi.  An Alexandria location is pending.  The Shaw location is in the old Kyrisan space without much change – including the odd island bar.
