Before Times Review:

We added Casolare to the LIST of recommended restaurants (you can also look it up on the MAP).  The restaurant’s website says it is inspired by the coastal cuisine of southern Italy, but that seems only a rough reference.  Casolare translates as “cottage” according to the google, but I think Il Casolare may translate more precisely as The Riggsby in Italian.  Which is to say that it serves hearty fare that satisfies the hotel guests and is a good option for those in the neighborhood.  The service is good.  The wine list is serviceable and Italian-heavy.  Casolare, and the Riggsby, are both part of Michael Schlow’s Boston-based empire.  In recent years he has invested in D.C., especially finding niches that were underserved and inserting a reliable, good option: Alta Strada, The Riggsby and Casolare fit that model.  He also owns Tico on 14th and Nama.  His places range from the good to the very good.  Casolare fits in that range and is worth trying out if you are in the area.
