Overview:
Rimtang occupies two cozy floors just off M Street in Georgetown where they serve Thai that is comforting but a bit more serious than comfort food. It is also a very good option at not that expensive a price point – at least for Georgetown.

Though the chef hails from northern Thailand, where thing run spicier, the menu represents a broad range of cooking from across the country. Familiar dishes, curries, ka praw, pad thai, spring rolls, circle around the core of the menu that is made up of signature dishes like nam prik ong with spicy roasted green peppers served with fried rinds and vegetables to scoop it up with. The garlic shrimp are sliced open and fried, but served with very little residual grease making a crunchy (if you eat with shell on) light snack. Crab dumplings were chock full of meat was the first bite on our visit and one of the bests. If it is not clear, seafood is prominent on the menu.
Liquor license was still pending during our visit, so the drink menu is teas and fruit juices that are served in pouches. The juices are Asian with roselle being tangy and bael like a light pear.

The old building is fitting for what is a family enterprise. Backed by the same team as the fancy cavernous Kyojin, Rimtang goes in a different direction. Homey in lieu of slick, cooked instead of raw, street food focused (rimtang refers to sidewalk stalls) not high end, precise plating. The dishes are created by the family’s mother, Prapit La Femina, who ran a restaurant in Thailand years ago. Like Donsak in Woodley Park, Rimtang is finding a way to do Thai that is both a great, no-frills neighborhood spot and combine it with superb cooking to justify going out of the way for it.
